Modern Word — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 12, 2026
Gee Bee Software LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Modern Word, a mobile application built with React Native and Expo, powered by Firebase, with subscriptions handled by RevenueCat and install attribution by AppsFlyer. Modern Word uses AI to answer questions with Biblically sound, scripturally based responses, lets you read and study the Bible in your selected translations, track spiritual milestones and reading progress, and record personal journals, notes, and prayers.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use Modern Word (“App”). By using the App, you consent to these practices. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information to provide, improve, and personalize Modern Word:
Personal Information
- Account Details: Your name and email address, provided during registration or login.
- Authentication Data: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay email, in Apple’s case) from the respective identity provider. We do not receive or store your Apple ID or Google account password.
- Spiritual Preferences: Your selected Bible translation(s) for reading and verse references.
- Milestone Data: The date you submit the prayer of salvation (if shared).
- Interaction Data: Questions and chat messages you send to the AI, your ratings of AI response quality, and the amount of AI usage (tokens) per request, for usage tracking and improvement.
- Journal Entries and Notes: Personal reflections, journal entries, and notes you create in the App.
- Prayers: Prayer requests and prayer-list items you create, including any titles, descriptions, and tags you add.
- Bible Annotations: Highlights, notes, and other annotations you attach to specific verses.
- Reading and Engagement Data: Information about how you use the App to power progress tracking, statistics, streaks, daily goals, and achievements — for example, chapters read, time spent reading, reading streaks, and goal completion.
- Notification Preferences: Your push notification settings, including which notification types you have enabled (daily verse, streak reminders, inactivity nudges, study continuation) and your preferred delivery time for the daily verse.
- Referral Data: If you join through our ambassador/referral program, we record the referral code and channel used, along with a one-way hashed device identifier used to prevent abuse, and maintain aggregate referral statistics.
Subscription and Payment Information
- RevenueCat Data: Customer information (e.g., subscription status, tier, purchase history) and events (e.g., subscription starts, renewals, cancellations) processed via RevenueCat for in-app purchases.
- We do not collect sensitive financial details like credit card numbers — the app stores (Apple, Google) and RevenueCat handle secure payment processing.
Automatically Collected Information
- Usage Data: App interactions (e.g., session duration, features used) via Firebase Analytics, collected only if you enable analytics (see Section 2). We also derive engagement statistics (such as reading time and streaks) as a core part of the App’s progress-tracking features.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, platform (iOS or Android), and unique identifiers (e.g., via Expo) for debugging and compatibility.
- Push Notification Tokens: If you enable push notifications, we collect and store your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token and a locally generated device identifier to deliver notifications to your device. We also collect your device timezone so notifications arrive at appropriate local times.
- Install Attribution Data: On first launch, we use AppsFlyer to determine how you found and installed Modern Word (e.g., which ad campaign, search term, or referral source led to your install). This data includes campaign source, medium, campaign name, and related marketing parameters. For organic installs (not from a paid campaign), no campaign attribution details are recorded.
- Advertising Identifier (iOS only): On iOS, we may request your permission via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework to access your device’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). This is used for attribution — understanding which marketing efforts led to your install and to key actions like subscribing. You can deny this request with no impact on app functionality.
- Fraud-Prevention Data: To prevent free-trial and referral abuse, we may record a one-way hashed device identifier and your IP address when you create an account or start a free trial.
2. Analytics and Usage Data
We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect usage data that helps us understand how people interact with Modern Word and improve it. Analytics is off by default — apart from a minimal set of first-launch technical events and the install-attribution record described in Section 1, we only collect analytics data if you choose to enable it (see “Opt-In and Opt-Out” below).
Events Tracked
When analytics is enabled, we track high-level categories of interaction, including:
- App launches and session durations.
- Feature usage (e.g., that a journal entry or chat interaction was created — not its content).
- Subscription purchase events (e.g., a purchase being started, completed, or restored).
- AI response ratings and usage metrics.
- Notification interactions (e.g., taps on push notifications, notification type, whether the app was opened from a cold or warm state).
We do not send your personal content to analytics. Your email, name, message and chat text, journal entries, notes, prayers, answers, and verse text are stripped out of analytics events. Limited feature inputs — such as a suggested question you tap or a study topic you enter — may be recorded to understand feature usage.
Data Retention
Analytics data collected via Firebase Analytics is retained for a default period of 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted unless otherwise required for legal or operational purposes. We may also aggregate engagement data into an internal analytics data warehouse (Google BigQuery) to understand product usage in aggregate.
Opt-In and Opt-Out
Analytics is disabled by default. You may enable it when prompted after your first launch, or at any time under the App’s analytics settings, and you may disable it again at any time from the same settings screen.
Third-Party Services
We use Google Firebase Analytics, a third-party service, to process and analyze usage data. Firebase adheres to strict data protection standards, as outlined in Google’s privacy policy. We also use AppsFlyer, a mobile attribution platform, to measure install attribution and campaign performance. AppsFlyer processes attribution data in accordance with its privacy policy, available at https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/privacy-policy/. Install attribution is captured once at first launch. We also send AppsFlyer a limited set of conversion events — such as registration, trial start, subscription (including price), and key feature-usage signals — to measure campaign performance; these are used for campaign measurement, not to build individual advertising profiles.
Our Website (modernword.app)
We operate a marketing website at modernword.app that describes Modern Word and links to the app stores. The website is a separate surface from the App and collects far less information. This subsection describes the website’s data practices; the rest of this policy covers the App.
- Install attribution (AppsFlyer OneLink). The download and app-store buttons on the website
route through an AppsFlyer OneLink link (
modern-word.onelink.me). If you arrive from a marketing campaign, an ad, or a shared link, that link carries the campaign parameters and any advertising click identifiers (for example, Google, Meta, or TikTok click IDs) present in the web address you followed, so that an app install can be attributed to the campaign or channel that referred you. This is link-based routing that happens when you tap a store button; the website itself does not set AppsFlyer cookies. This attribution is otherwise handled by AppsFlyer as described above and in AppsFlyer’s privacy policy. - Website analytics (Google Analytics 4). We may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the website is used — for example, page views and taps on the store buttons. GA4 is configured with Google Consent Mode v2: for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default and those visits are not measured, while it is granted for visitors elsewhere; IP addresses are handled according to Google’s standard GA4 practices. We do not enable any advertising, remarketing, or ad-personalization features in GA4. Website analytics is not currently enabled, and this disclosure is published before we turn it on; while it is off, the website loads no analytics scripts, cookies, or related network requests.
- No other trackers. The website uses no other cookies or third-party trackers, and its fonts are self-hosted (they are not loaded from a third-party font network). The website is served by Google Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard server request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and the page requested) for security and reliability.
- Links out. The website links to the Apple App Store, Google Play, and to these legal policies. Your use of the App itself is governed by the rest of this Privacy Policy.
3. How We Collect Information
- Directly from You: When you register, submit questions or prayers, rate responses, create journal entries, notes, or annotations, read the Bible, or manage subscriptions.
- From Third Parties:
- AI Providers (Anthropic, Google, and xAI): We use one or more large-language-model providers — Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), and xAI (Grok) — to generate Biblical responses and other AI content. Your questions and the content you submit for AI features are processed by these providers. See Section 4 for what is and isn’t sent.
- Firebase (Google): Provides backend storage, analytics, authentication, and push notification delivery via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription events and customer IDs.
- AppsFlyer: Captures install attribution data (campaign source, medium, and related parameters) on first app launch to measure marketing effectiveness.
- API.Bible: Provides certain licensed Bible translations. When you view verses in those translations, a usage-measurement request (the publisher’s “FUMS” system) is sent that includes a one-way hashed user identifier (which does not directly reveal your identity) and app-generated device/session identifiers, as required by the translation license.
- Apple / Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information (name and email) from the respective identity provider.
- Automatically: Via Firebase services, AppsFlyer, Expo SDKs, or server logs collecting usage, device, attribution, and notification data.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Deliver core features: Generate AI responses using your selected Bible translations, let you read and study the Bible, track reading progress, statistics, streaks, goals, and achievements, store and display your journals, notes, prayers, and annotations, track salvation prayer dates, manage subscriptions, and deliver push notifications based on your preferences.
- Personalize your experience: We may remember context from your interactions with Modern Word so the App can tailor responses, suggestions, and daily content to you over time. This personalization data is stored securely and is removed if you delete your account (see Section 7).
- Improve Modern Word: Analyze usage patterns, response ratings, and usage metrics (with personal content excluded) to enhance AI accuracy and app functionality.
- Communicate: Send subscription confirmations, updates, or support responses via email.
- Monitor and protect: Detect fraud, ensure security, or comply with legal obligations.
- Marketing (with consent): Send occasional emails about new features (opt out anytime via email settings).
- Measure marketing effectiveness: Use install attribution data and campaign-conversion events from AppsFlyer to understand which campaigns and channels bring users to Modern Word. This data helps us allocate marketing resources responsibly and is not used to build individual advertising profiles.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. How We Share Your Information
We share information only as necessary:
- Service Providers: With our AI providers (Anthropic, Google, and xAI, for AI processing), Firebase (for storage, analytics, authentication, and push notification delivery), RevenueCat (for subscriptions), AppsFlyer (for install attribution), and API.Bible (for licensed Bible translations and their required usage measurement). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data. Your journals, notes, and prayers are stored in Firebase. Content you submit to AI features (for example, journal entries and prayers composed with AI assistance) is processed by our AI providers, and notes you create are automatically processed by our AI providers to format and organize them. Relevant portions of your past AI interactions may also be used to generate personalized content such as your daily verse and suggestions (see Section 4).
- What we do NOT send to AI providers: For copyrighted Bible translations, we do not send the verse text to AI providers — only the verse reference is used. Personal content outside the AI features described above is not sent to AI providers.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
- Business Transfers: In case of merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you.
We do not share data with advertisers or unrelated third parties. Data processed in the US may involve international transfers — see Section 10.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard measures:
- Encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, including journals, notes, and prayers.
- Access controls to limit data exposure (e.g., role-based permissions and Firebase security rules).
- Regular security practices and Expo’s secure build tools.
No system is 100% secure, but we strive to protect against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Report concerns to support@geebeesoftware.com.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR for EU/UK users, CCPA for California residents):
- Access, Update, or Delete: You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the App. When you request deletion, your account is scheduled for permanent deletion after a short recovery period (currently 30 days), during which you can restore it by signing back in and choosing to recover your account when prompted. After that period, your account and its data — including journals, notes, prayers, chats, annotations, reading statistics, and personalization data — are permanently deleted from our app database. Certain records may be retained where required or appropriate — for example, subscription records held by RevenueCat and the app stores, fraud-prevention records, and aggregated analytics already in our internal warehouse. You may also request access to or deletion of your data by emailing support@geebeesoftware.com; we’ll respond within 30 days.
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails, or disable analytics in the App’s settings at any time.
- Push Notifications: You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through the App’s notification settings screen, or through your device’s operating system settings. Disabling notifications does not affect any other App functionality. You may also customize which types of notifications you receive (daily verse, streak reminders, inactivity nudges, study continuation) and your preferred delivery time for the daily verse.
- App Tracking (iOS): If you previously granted App Tracking Transparency permission, you can revoke it at any time in your device’s Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Do Not Sell/Share: We do not sell data; you may opt out of analytics in settings.
- Withdraw Consent: For any consent-based processing (e.g., analytics, marketing).

Children: Modern Word is not intended for users under 13. If we learn we collected data from a child under 13, we’ll delete it promptly.
8. Data Retention
We store your data to maintain your account and provide continuous service, including access to your journals, notes, prayers, annotations, and reading history. Analytics data is retained for 14 months per Firebase’s default policy, and aggregate engagement data may be retained in our internal analytics warehouse. You may delete your account and associated data at any time in the App, or request deletion of specific data (e.g., chats, journals, prayer dates) by emailing support@geebeesoftware.com. Subscription data is retained as required by RevenueCat and the app stores (typically several years for tax purposes). Push notification device tokens are retained while your account is active; a token is deactivated when a new token replaces it on the same device or when it is found to be invalid, and all device tokens are deleted with your account. Attribution data captured by AppsFlyer is stored once at install and retained in accordance with AppsFlyer’s data retention policies. Inactive accounts may be deleted after 2 years, with prior notice.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
Modern Word may link to external sites (e.g., Bible translation sources, AI provider documentation). We are not responsible for their privacy practices — please review their policies.
10. International Data Transfers
Data is stored and processed in the United States via Firebase and our other service providers. For users outside the US, we use Standard Contractual Clauses (via Firebase/Google) and other safeguards to ensure equivalent protection under GDPR and other laws.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect app or legal changes. Material updates will be communicated via email or in-app notifications, with the new effective date at the top, and you may be asked to re-accept the updated policy before continuing to use the App. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.
